It is through knowledge of dîn that one can recognize the straight path. Therefore, acquiring this knowledge and teaching it to others is the most important obligation after bringing faith. In the books of Ahâdîth, the chapter of knowledge comes after the chapter of faith. Rasûlullâh (S.A.W) said, “Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim.” (Ibn Mâjah)

Virtues of seeking Islamic knowledge

Ø Rasûlullâh (S.A.W) said, “Allah will make the path to Paradise easy for that person who travels in order to seek knowledge. Definitely, the angels place their wings beneath the feet of the seeker of knowledge out of happiness with his action.” (Abû Dâwûd)

Ø Rasûlullâh (S.A.W) said, “Glad tidings be for the seeker of knowledge [a form of du’â by Rasûlullâh r]. Undoubtedly, the angels surround the seeker of knowledge with their wings and position themselves – one on top of the other – until they reach the first sky. They do this because of their love for the knowledge which he is seeking.” (Ahmad, At-Tabrânî)

Ø Rasûlullâh (S.A.W) said, “He who comes to my Masjid with the intention of learning or teaching good, then he is of the rank of those who engage in Jihâd (Using one’s utmost effort for the upliftment of Islâm) in the path of Allah.” (Ibn Mâjah)
